Lavrov to attend East Asia Summit in Jakarta

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will take part in the 18th East Asia Summit on September 7 in Jakarta. He will hold a series of meetings with regional partners and representatives of multilateral associations, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said at a briefing, Report informs referring to TASS.

The diplomat pointed out that the Russian side views the summit site as an important element of the regional security architecture with the potential to develop multi-vector practical cooperation.

“During the event, we consider it important to discuss the challenges that the Asia-Pacific Region is facing, in particular, we intend to draw attention to the risks of an aggravation of the military-political situation in the region against the background of the West’s implementation of the line to expand the geographical zone, as they call it, of NATO responsibility,” she added.

“There is also a substantive discussion about maintaining the stability of the aseanocentric architecture, which is under serious pressure from alternative block venues,” she emphasized.
