A court in Yerevan has ordered the arrest of parliamentary candidate Andranik Tevanyan for two months, Report informs, citing Armenia's Investigative Committee.
Earlier, the defendant's lawyer, Aram Orbelyan, said the case materials contain no elements related to collecting or transmitting state secrets and that the criminal case is therefore groundless.
Tevanyan, a parliamentary candidate from the Prosperous Armenia party, was earlier charged with high treason.
On the previous day, Armenia's Central Election Commission authorized the Prosecutor General's Office to launch criminal prosecution. The Avan and Nor Nork District Court of Yerevan granted the investigation's motion on a preventive measure.
