In Peru, water scarcity and intensive development are shaping a new model of urban growth, stated Alberto Petrilik, Advisor to the Mayor of the Peruvian city of Chancay, at WUF13 in Baku, Report informs.
He said that Lima faces a severe water shortage due to its arid climate, while rapid urban growth increases water stress and urban planning pressures.
He noted that the development of the mega-port in Chancay has strengthened the region"s economic role but has also intensified social and urban challenges, prompting the planning of a new planned city in collaboration with UN-Habitat.
