Kvrivishvili: Azerbaijan, Georgia agreed to resume operations of Baku-Supsa oil pipeline

Azerbaijan and Georgia have agreed to resume operations of the Baku-Supsa oil pipeline, Georgian Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Mariam Kvrivishvili said, Report informs.

She stated that the agreement was signed during her visit to Baku for WUF13.

"Restoring the pipeline, which has been inactive for recent years, is important both for regional energy cooperation and for strengthening Georgia's transit role. Following negotiations, the Georgian government decided to begin cooperation with SOCAR, and this will allow for joint efforts to restore the pipeline," the minister said.

Baku-Supsa is an export route designed to transport oil produced from the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli field block. It was commissioned in April 1999. The pipeline is 837 kilometers long, including 775 kilometers of new 21-inch (530 mm) diameter pipeline and 55 kilometers of rehabilitated pipeline. The pipeline's capacity is over 7 million tons of oil per year (145,000 barrels per day). Pumping along this route was halted in the spring of 2022, and all Azerbaijani oil is currently exported via the BTC pipeline.
