Rodriguez Blandon: In Latin America, youth and women are transforming urban safety approaches

In Latin American countries, youth and women are increasingly involved in shaping approaches to urban safety, using digital tools and mechanisms of public participation, region representative Maite Rodriguez Blandon said at the "Youth Leadership for Safe and Sustainable Cities" event held within the framework of WUF13.

Report quotes her as saying initiatives are being implemented in Colombia and other Latin American countries aimed at engaging women in peacebuilding processes, violence prevention, and the development of inclusive urban policies.

"Particular attention is being paid to the participation of youth and women in the activities of community organizations, including grassroots women"s associations and Indigenous communities in Guatemala," Rodriguez Blandon noted.

She emphasized that research has shown the resilience and institutional development of such organizations, but they require additional support, as well as youth engagement to ensure continuity.

According to the Latin American representative, work with young women has already led to the renewal of methodologies and field research tools, including audits of urban space safety.
